Will IOS9 Drive News Blogs out of Business
IOS9 is due to be released on iPhones and iPads this September. As well as the usual upgrades and better features – we can expect big changes to the way many online publishers make their money. Safari on IOS9 will be offering an ‘Opt Out’ feature that will disable many of the adverts we currently see on news sites and blogs. Sometimes these can be flashy, off-putting and annoying. The of the biggest complaints is that adverts follow users around the internet which is seen as creepy.
Although this will come as great news to many IOS users and will hugely improve the browsing experience, it does mean that many businesses will need to rethink the way they generate an income and pay their staff. Many will go out of business but many will be forced to look at using alternate methods of advertising – hopefully advertising that is more relevant, useful and unobtrusive rather than the usual Javascript ad network nonsense that we’ve had to endure for years now.
We’re really looking forward to seeing how online publishers will be using adverts over the next year or so to capture their audiences attention, whilst paying the bills at the same time.
