Stay Away From DIY Logo Designs
Stay Away From DIY Logo Designs
Starting a business usually means investing a great deal of time and no small amount of money. When putting together a budget for the start-up costs, owners will often look at ways to cut corners in ways that they believe will not directly affect the business. One of the most common areas where you will find those cost cutting measures is in design, with the website and logo creation often relegated to amateur status.
Business owners believe that cutting costs there is fine, especially when they have a great product or service to sell. The problem is that customers will look at your DIY designs and assume that your products are of the same inferior quality.
Whether we want to admit it or not, we are all a little guilty of judging a book by its cover. It’s for these reason that logo design should be left in the hands of the pros. You may consider yourself quite handy with Photoshop, but there are many elements that go into a great logo design, most of which the amateur designer simply doesn’t know about. Colour, font, typeface, and a whole bunch of elements have to be combined in just the right way to make a logo look great, which is something that a professional designer can essentially do in his or her sleep.
If you choose to try and create a logo design on your own, you may get lucky and get one or two of the elements right, but the rest will still be all wrong, leaving a finished logo that just doesn’t work. You also need to be aware that you logo will be used in different places. You will have it on your website, marketing materials, and even above the front door of your business. Will your amateur design look the same across all of those different areas? Probably not!
You may think you are being clever by using a free logo template, of which there are thousands online, but you need to ask how many businesses are using the exact same one. A logo is a big part of building your own unique brand. How is that possible when you are essentially sharing the exact same logo with hundreds of other companies? Worse yet, what is the logo you share is one that belongs to a company that suddenly gets bad press of some kind? That logo will make you guilty by association, even though you have nothing to do with them.
It is important that you stay within your budget when starting a business, but a logo is something that you simply cannot undervalue. It is essentially the foundation that your business brand will be built on, so make sure that it’s a solid one. You might just be surprised at how affordable professional logo design is nowadays.
